2. Crestwood residents can receive a street tree at no cost, with planting provided by the City or a subcontractor. Availability is limited each year and determined by City funding.

   How It Works

   1. Complete the online application, including your tree selection from the City’s approved species list. (Any unlisted species must receive prior approval.)

   2. City staff will review your request. If it is determined that a tree cannot be planted in the available space, you will be notified.

   3. Approved trees will be planted on a first-come, first-served basis.

   Program Details

   • One tree per resident per year.
   • The number of trees planted annually is limited by available funding.

15. Space Requirements*

    The property owner MUST ensure there is adequate space for a tree before submitting an application. All trees must be planted in an approved location, so the following space requirements must be met:

    1. The planting area, or tree lawn (typically the grass strip between the street and sidewalk), must be at least five (5) feet wide.
    2. If a sidewalk is present, trees must be planted in the center of the tree lawn.
    3. If no sidewalk is present, trees must be planted at least ten (10) feet from the curb.
    4. Trees must be at least twenty-five (25) feet away from any streetlight.
    5. Trees must be at least ten (10) feet away from street inlets, manholes, and fire hydrants.
    6. Trees must be at least thirty (30) feet away from any existing tree.
    7. Trees may not be planted directly beneath overhead utility lines or above buried utilities. Utilities will be marked prior to planting; if they cannot be avoided, the tree cannot be planted.
    8. Trees may not be planted within the sight triangle at an intersection (see diagram below).
