The Crestwood Board of Aldermen approved a resolution at its Jan. 13 meeting supporting the City’s application for a federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to fund a proposed sidewalk project along Crest Oak Lane.
The project would construct a new sidewalk along Crest Oak Lane between East Watson Road and Harwich Drive. Public Works has identified the east side of the street as a potential location; however, the final alignment would be determined during the engineering and design phase if the project moves forward.
As part of the design review process, engineers would evaluate site-specific conditions, including driveway elevations, ADA accessibility requirements and other physical constraints. Sidewalks of this type are typically constructed within the public right-of-way adjacent to the street.
At this stage, the City is applying for funding only. No final design has been completed, no construction timeline has been established and no right-of-way decisions have been made.
Crest Oak Lane was identified as a priority location due to high vehicle and pedestrian traffic, its proximity to Truman Middle School and Long Elementary School, documented roadway safety concerns and its role as a key route to Crestwood Park, one of the City’s most heavily used parks.
If the City is awarded the TAP grant, the project would advance over several years, beginning with design and engineering. Prior to any construction, the City would host a public meeting to share proposed plans and provide impacted residents an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how the project could be implemented.
