The medical services provided by the Department are Advanced Life Support services under the direction of the Medical Director from SSM Health. Paramedics are assigned to either the Fire Engine (with paramedic services) or the Paramedic Rescue Truck, both of which have the equipment onboard in order to provide such treatments, including:
- Heart Monitor/Defibrillator
- Advanced Life Support Equipment and Medications
- Rescue Extrication Equipment
- Transport provided by Abbott Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when medically necessary
In order to provide Fire, EMS, and Hazmat response, members of the Department must maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills through constant training. The department participates in approximately 300 hours of training annually, per person. This training is conducted in-house by department training officers or at other locations such as the St. Louis County Fire Academy, Tri-County Training Consortium, the Central Core Training Coordinates and other specialized training programs throughout the St. Louis area.
